This project was one I wanted to make to play around with editing styles and improve my Adobe Premiere Pro skills. As the magazine issue was Y2K themed, I wanted the trailer to give off a similar tone. The entire project was filmed on a digital Nikon camera, to give the grainy effect of most early 2000s cameras. I also added the VCR effect to the start and end of the video to add a bit more depth to the visuals. The music is used to increase the playfulness of the shoot and create an upbeat ambiance. With the use of colour and grainy effects, the trailer is able to feel youthful and fun.

Challenges

A few challenges that came up during this project were;

  1. Picking the right footage to use. I had come across this project in the way that I wanted everything that was going to be filmed to be authentic and natural. That meant that there was no shot list to refer to when editing. I had many great clips and angles to use however, there was no need to include everything so I had to filter out the great clips from the good clips.

  2. Finding music. It was a difficult challenge to find music that truly emphasized the video's tone. I had a clear song genre in mind, and the search became the most difficult part of the editing process. As there is no other sound, it needed to fit perfectly as the music drives the audio component to the trailer.

  3. Figuring out where to add extra visual effects. I had to play around with many editing additions to figure out where it worked best. I had to make sure that I did not overdo it on the edits as it could easily become too busy so, finding the right balance was key. It took trial and error, and many re-watching of the trailer to figure out where I liked the edits the most and what worked the best visually.
